Assured Steps Towards Industrial Prominence with myBIM Centre

Set to pave the way for a new height of awareness and acceptance on the BIM practices in the national construction industry, a myBIM Centre was launched in 20th November 2017by the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB). With the vision to be the premier national provider of construction development solutions, myBIM Centre is a one-stop centre providing facilities, equipment and other resources for the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM).

As such, the RM 2.5 Million myBIM Centre located on the 11th floor of Sunway Putra Tower, Kuala Lumpur is offering the use of BIM on pay-per-basis to these enterprises. Customizable to accommodate varying use of BIM, myBIM Centre is equipped with conducive ecosystem of facilities, equipment and even a National BIM Library (NBL) to propagate the use of BIM among the national construction industry players.

Current market conditions usually position the costs of using BIM software at aroundRM9,000 per year, with the initial investment in procuring the basic hardware would cost around RM20,000 to RM50,000. These costs on top of investing in training staffs to operate the software can be financially burdening to the small and medium enterprises in using BIM as part of their business operandi.

Take for example its myBIM Studio that is available for rental to BIM practitioners either for actual works or training purposes. Equipped with Z230 E3 Workstations by Hewlett-Packard, the workstations are installed with NVIDIA QUADRA K620 2GB Graphics Card,1TB High-speed Hard Disk and 16GB DDR4 - 2400R to provide state-of-the-art facilities and equipment to the users.

With the CEO of CIDB E-Construct Services, Ts. Rofizlan Ahmad behind its operation, myBIM Centre seeks to provide some degree of solutions to the challenges of incorporating BIM among the construction industry players. The challenges mostly arisen out of the fact that BIM is associated with high cost of software and hardware. There is also significant lack of IBM knowledge even among existing practitioners , scarce competency among the local workforce as well as differing mindset and culture towards BIM. The conduciveness of myBIM Centre is a translation of a mission to rise to the multi-pronged challenges.

Strategically located at the eleventh floor of Menara Sunway Putra, Jalan Putra, Kuala Lumpur, myBIM Centre is deemed one of the ventures undertaken by CIDB E-Construct Services to be the premier national provider of construction lifecycle solutions. The centre also provides BIM Proficiency programme managed by experienced training providers to propagate excellence among local BIM practitioners.
